DIY Multi-Strand Textured Scarf
Nothing beats the versatility of a classic white cotton t-shirt. You can pair with jeans on the weekend, a high-waisted black pencil skirt for the office or toss an oversized tee over a swimsuit for a day at the beach. But you know what else is great about a t-shirt? It makes a great DIY material! For this project, in partnership with Brit + Co., we decided to turn two white cotton t-shirts into two totally different scarves. Check out the video above to see each of these pieces come to life, and follow along for the in-depth tutorial.
Let's Get Started
Step 1
Gather all materials. This scarf is all about texture and layers. We went with two colors but you could definitely go nuts and make every strand a different color.
Step 2
Cut your t-shirt in half under the sleeves. Cut in half again so you have two tubes.
Step 3
Slip the first tube of cotton over a piece of cardboard. Spray with mint dye.
Step 4
Step 5
Cut into strips.
Step 6
Once you have the strips, stretch them so they roll to create a more cord-like shape.
Step 7
Take the other half and cut into strips. Pull them apart to create more cord-like shapes.
Step 8
Braid!
Step 9
Secure your braid at both ends.
Step 10
Spray braids with purple dye.
Step 11
Take one of the teal strands and cut into two small pieces. You’ll use these to bind all the pieces together.
Step 12
Group all of your strands together and tie into two or three spots. It’s up to you!
Step 13
Voila! Your DIY multi-strand textured scarf is ready to rock!
