DIY Halloween Costume

Folks, Halloween is coming up! Do you know what you're going to be yet? And what about your kiddos? If you're still on the hunt for the perfect mom and kid costume, we've got a great DIY option you. Presenting: Lightning and Thunder! Now, let's get to the how-to!

What you need

What you need

  • Navy or Gray Cotton Baby Pajamas or Onesie
  • Cotton Balls
  • Yellow Cotton Dress
  • Gold Fabric Paint
  • Gold Fabric-Friendly Glitter
  • Paint Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Painter's Tape

Let's Get Started

Step 1

Gather all materials. You can also easily add in additional parents and kids as extra thunderclouds, lightning bolts and someone could definitely be the rain. We lucked out in the pajamas department and came across these storm cloud jammers at Baby Gap. So perfect!

Step 2

Use hot glue to attach cotton balls to your onesie. Yep -- those are standard cotton balls!

Step 3

If you feel like getting fancy, you could mix in a few blue or gray cotton pom-poms as well, but we like keeping it simple.

Step 4

Done! We did two clouds on the top and one on the bottom. Now, onto that lightning bolt dress for mama!

Step 5

Since you'll be painting your dress, you want to start by sliding a piece of cardboard or poster board into your dress.

Step 6

Use painter's tape to create a lightning bolt shape.

Step 7

Fill in the lightning bolt with gold paint.

Step 8

Sprinkle on glitter intermittently while the paint is still wet.

Step 9

Let dry and remove tape.

Step 10

Done! Now, all we need to do is find the perfect mama and kiddo to wear them…

Step 11

How amazing does Misty Spinney look as a lightning bolt? And her outrageously adorable Elijah is definitely the cutest "thunder" we've ever seen.
