DIY Fabric Ottoman

An ottoman that doubles as a storage box is the perfect solution to keep things hidden and have a place to prop your feet. Cotton material is super durable and can withstand kicking up your heels at the end of the day, but also looks super stylish to match any aesthetic. We set out to create a no-sew ottoman using a staple gun and a drill. Keep reading for steps and supplies for the no-sew, printed storage ottoman.

  • 4 Pieces of 14'' x 18" Plywood
  • 2 Pieces of 18.5" x 18.5" Plywood
  • Staple Gun
  • Electric Drill
  • 2" Wood Screws
  • Pillow Stuffing
  • Printed Cotton Fabric
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Let's Get Started

Step 1

Gather all materials.

Step 2

Measure and cut fabric so that there is an extra 1 1/2" around the perimeter of each piece of wood.

Step 3

Using a staple gun, attach the fabric to the piece of wood. 

Step 4

Use the same technique as attaching canvas to a wood frame.

Step 5

When constructing the top of the ottoman, layer pillow stuffing before securing all four sides to create a seating spot.

Step 6

Assemble the base of the ottoman by screwing together boards the board to create a box, screwing together the four sides first, and then attaching the bottom with screws.

Place top cushion on top to conceal excess storage.
