We also let you know last time around that beautiful model and actress Molly Sims would be weighing in on her cotton picks. Lucky for us, the author of The Everyday Supermodel is not done talking about cotton just yet. We caught up with her for an exclusive interview on her style inspirations, shopping for her kids and the fabric she loves so much. Read on for the scoop on this leading lady’s fashion POV!

What do you love about working in the fashion industry?

This may sound a little “cliché” but clothes and style can give you some major confidence. The right fashion choices and styling can make you feel pretty invincible. My friend, Rachel Zoe, always says that style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. I totally agree! Also, fashion isn’t about being a certain size. I love that the industry is moving more towards the fact that it’s not about being stick thin; it’s about feeling good in your own skin. And if a stylish wardrobe makes you feel that way, so be it!

What inspires your style?

When I first started modeling, I definitely did a whole “fake it till you make it.” I studied the style of other models as well as style icons and their signature looks. I was (and still am) constantly reading magazines: British, French, American Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle, etc. because I’m not only inspired by the clothing and the color, but also by the way the clothes are styled on the models. Traveling in my career has also inspired my style. Globetrotting definitely awakens your inner fashion guru! For example, the Parisian woman inspires me. She’s the definition of effortless sophistication, confidence and sensuality!

What do you look for when shopping for your kids? Why is it so important to you to dress them in cotton clothing?

When shopping for my kids, I look for comfort and durability. Brooks (3 years) is at that age where he loves to play outside and be a rough and tumble boy. I trust cotton because it’s extremely easy to wash and it’s durable. Trust me, I’ve gotten the craziest toddler stains out of cotton and I’m thankful for that! Same goes for Scarlett, my baby. Spit up stains have met their match! I can definitely count on cotton.

Who is your favorite designer and why?

Oh, wow! Well, I can’t pick just one! It really just depends on what aesthetic I’m going for. I love Isabel Marant for a relaxed, bohemian look, Alexander Wang for everything clean and simple, and Dolce and Gabbana for sex appeal (I’ve never met a body-hugging lace dress from them I didn’t like!)

What is your favorite trend right now?

I’m obsessed with the boho trend. Floral dress, gladiator sandals, and a pop of color on my lips! I’ll also add a leather jacket if I want to make the style a little edgier. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with the “done/undone” look aka messy chic (as I like to call it!)

What cotton piece in your closet is your favorite and why?

I have a collection of cotton sweaters in my closet that are my springtime go-to. They are light, comfortable, and stylish. There’s a reason a cotton sweater is a tried and true basic.

What makes cotton the fabric of your life?

I’ve always been a huge fan of cotton. It’s breathable, natural, and extremely easy to wash. This fabric is strong and I’m not afraid to get it a little dirty! As I’ve said, my son, Brooks, is a typical boy and can get some stains on his clothes every now and again…cotton has proven to be extremely toddler safe.
