For fifty years, Earth Day has been a way for Americans to consider the health of our planet and work to improve how we use its natural resources. This year marks its fiftieth anniversary, and it has never been easier or more rewarding to make small changes to help our planet. If you’re looking for ways to do good this Earth Day, check out our Blue Jeans Go Green™ program.
Founded in 2006, Cotton's Blue Jeans Go Green™ program was built on a mission—a mission to divert textile waste from landfills and turn it into something that can be put to good use, like turning used denim into recycled denim fiber insulation. In the past fourteen years, we have diverted 1,750+ tons of denim waste from landfills and recycled over 3.5 million pieces of denim into over six million feet of denim insulation. That’s a lot of houses!
Because denim is made from cotton, it’s natural, durable, and sustainable. So, when denim is recycled, it can be transformed in creative ways, like into natural cotton fiber insulation that is then used in building efforts around the country.
This Earth Day, there’s an easy way for you to get involved. While many of us are spending more time at home, there’s still a great opportunity to clean out your closet and do some spring cleaning. Collect the jeans and other denim items—like jackets or dresses—that you no longer wear and set them aside for recycling. Once it’s safe to visit stores or the post office again, you can mail in your worn denim or visit one of our participating retailers to contribute.
Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ program makes doing good and being sustainable easy this Earth Day. Look good. Do good. Feel good. #goodindenim
